JW Kerr is a professor of English at Sam Houston State University. He has specialized in classic literature for 30 years at the school, which headquarters the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Kerr found that many of his students with first-hand experience in law enforcement recognized the mythic struggles between good and evil that played out in the works of Homer, Dante, and Shakespeare from their own experiences. They understood the difference between evil and sin in criminal acts -- an observation that inspired Kerr's first novel, "The Devil and Lieutenant Hilderbrand".
The story examines the classically evil face of crime rather than the purely sinful one more commonly portrayed in film, on television, and in popular crime literature. Kerr's research into the subject matter included extensive studies of Texas' state execution procedures and eyewitness investigations into urban law enforcement.
JW Kerr holds a PhD in English from Texas A&M University. He currently lives with his wife, Yvonne, in the prison town of Huntsville, Texas.
Residence: Texas, USA
