"Rei is working as an English teacher in Tokyo and sharing a flat, fighting
off various attempts to reduce her independence. A festive season winter
holiday to a rural retreat is interrupted by the murder of another hotel
guest. Rei gets caught up in a series of escapades trying to find out
whodunit. Sharpening her interest in the mystery is that one of the suspects
is an attractive but infuriating Scottish guy called Hugh, and she doesn't
want to believe that someone she likes is a killer. There are lots of
familiar ingredients from other mysteries here, but I really enjoyed this
page turner. I thought the contradictions in Rei's position - she looks
Japanese to westerners yet is herself a westerner, and is looked down on by
some Japanese for her mixed background and disapproved of for her
unconventional lifestyle. I'm glad to know I have several more books in the
series to look forward to, at least when I can find them!" - Luci Davin - RAM | |
