Jay Clarke is a trial lawyer in Vancouver specializing in cases involving the criminally insane. As A defense lawyer and crown counsel he has been involved in over on hundered cases.

The books revolve around a department within the Canadian Mounties called Special X. They deal with cases that cross the borders of Canada. The main players are Nick Craven, Robert DeClercq, and Zinc Chandler. Different characters take the lead in different books.

One of the best parts of the books is the research. The books contain a bibliography at the end detailing the research. If the book involves hanging, you will learn a lot about hanging! I have walked away from each book knowing more than when I started it. And the topics range from Tribal uprisings in Africa to Indian lore, to New Orleans.

The detecting aspects are well thought out, the characters likable, and No One Is Safe!!!!
