| We were informed that Hugh Holton,
police officer and author, died of cancer on Friday, May 18, 2001. Our sincere condolences to
his family, friends, and fans.
Also, author Douglas Adams
died suddenly at the age of 49 in Santa Barbara of a heart attack on Friday, May 11, 2001.
And, Sophie Dunbar died of
cancer on May 11, 2001.
This has not been a good year for readers to date. So far this year, we have lost: Anne George; Richard Laymon; Robert Ludlum; Rick Shelley; Elizabeth Daniels Squire;
Laurali R. Wright; Douglas Adams, Sophie Dunbar and Hugh Holton.
Some of these authors I am more familiar with than others. But it saddens me greatly that
the reading world has lost so many authors in so short a time.
May they rest in well-deserved eternal peace. May their families find peace in their
memories. And may their readers find peace in the work they left behind!
