I'm a 56 year old author manque who has tried
unsuccessfully over the years
to write something that I would want to read, and have finally reconciled
myself to editing and criticism. I live in Saratoga Springs NY (Dobyns
country) with two felines who think I'm their father (haven't had the heart
to tell them that they're adopted).
What I look for in a book are decent writing and plot consistency,
sufficient to put the author in my pantheon along with Chandler, MacDonald
(Ross, of course) Ambler, Greene, Thomas (Ross, again), Le Carre, et. al.,
so if you send me a book, you'll find me unforgiving where the dei ex
machinae are concerned. I'm a fan of Greenleaf and Block, among others.
As you can see, I'm a bit of a curmudgeon, but never, I hope, unfair. I'm an
Old Leftie, and that POV does affect my criticism at times, but not to the
point where I would pan a well written book just because of the politics.
