Am I really this old???
Well it looks like it's been a while since I've written one of these! Things have been a
little busy around the Jordan homestead. Trips to the north to see friends and family, gardening,
and work work work. But I have found time to do some reading.
I read some of the early Max
Allan Collins. I can't get enough of these books. Collins really draws me right into his
world. I also read a few of Peter
Robinson's Inspector Banks series. My first foray into them. I really like the series. He
does a wonderful job of giving a feeling of the place and I love the way Banks does things. Laid
back, yet relentless. I've also read a few more Marcia
Muller. She really rocks. I think it's one of the best PI series going. Some of the other
stuff I've read has been reviewed. I've been on a good roll lately.
I've also seen a slew of movies. I don't know about the rest of you, but I liked Vanilla Sky. I
bought into the whole premise and it worked for me. I can't say more with out giving stuff away.
Thirteen Ghosts was a lot of fun. A modern horror film with surprisingly little gore. And beautiful
sets. I also really liked The Others. It truly freaked me out. Great movie. Other movies I would
suggest renting would be; The Mothman Prophesies, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, Behind Enemy Lines
(schlocky but fun), and From
Hell.
So,
it's official, I must be old. I'm going to my twenty year reunion for high school. (Go Highlanders).
The organizers are utilizing e-mail so we are in communication with each other ahead of time. I'm
really getting psyched. It's weird how life kind of puts you in a spin and you forget how many
people you used to enjoy spending time with. And from the looks of it, a lot of them will be at the
reunion. A few have passed on, some married, divorced. But we all went through four years of the
same mindless drivel together. Should be interesting to see who's done what. Kind of hoping the few
people I didn't care for are really heavy and depressed.... :) But I really am getting excited about
it.
A
sure sign of summer, road construction. And right at the end of my block!!! A turnaround is being
installed. I'm looking forward to many fender-benders while Milwaukee gets used to this strange
idea. Plus the high school behind us id being torn down at the end tf the summer. A new one already
built next door to the old, and a stadium going up where the old one is now.
In other news, I am officially a married adult. I bought my first grill. (insert Tim Allen noises
here). It's lean and black and has side racks.... I plan to eat outdoors often. Which works out
well, because Ruth's garden is starting to kick in. I'm including a couple shots from around week
three. I'm hoping to get a series of them together, and the lovely Vicki has said she'll put them
up.
And
summer is here. Which means Summerfest. Lots of live music and food. Some interesting acts coming
through. INXS, Heart, The Fixx. Should be a fun music summer. I just saw Harry Connick Jr. What a
great show. He is really great live. Funny, energetic and of course, talented.
So, till next time,
adios!
Jon
