In this departure from Slaughter's rural Georgia series, she instead revives John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee. Along with his old pal Meyer, McGee meets Keith Snyder, an irreverent pool shark from Sausalito with revenge on his mind. It seems Snyder needs McGee to help him find his old girlfriend, long thought dead -- until Snyder's favorite pool cue turns up missing and he recieves an e-mail from his dearly departed saying she'll REALLY be dead if he doesn't go in the tank at the upcoming World Billiards Championships in Las Vegas, which points to Snyder's old-time hated rival, who's still ticked off at getting beat three years in a row.
