Series: Blair Emerson # 1
Mystery Writers of America, 2002, 270 pg, $19.95
Author Linda Amey calls upon her own real-life experience as a mortician to breathe life (and authenticity) into her heroine, funeral director Blair Emerson. One can only guess that the author also might have suffered some personal tragedy of her own because Blair Emerson's pain and despair feel all too horrifically real. The book is a veritable roller coaster ride of the painful emotions dealing with tragedy and loss, and it managed to elicit tears from this reader more than once.
Ms. Amey proves herself a master at weaving subplots in this novel of suspense about a young female funeral director whose toddler disappeared from the sandbox in her own backyard 11 years previously. The unthinkable happens again and Blair finds herself tangled in a web of deceit and suspicion. With time running out on so many fronts, Blair proves just how powerful a mother's love can be.
The books poignant ending promises that it is only a matter of time until we find out more about Blair Emerson and the challenges ahead.
