When Will There Be Good News?     Amazon US HC Amazon Canada HC
Kate Atkinson
Class/Genre:   Mystery   Private Investigator
September 2008, Little Brown & Co.

Atkinson's recurring character Jackson Brodie is one of the people in the story, but center stage is held by a young woman, recently orphaned, and working as a nanny for a doctor and her little son.

Plot includes a train wreck, a hidden stash of heroin, a mysterious disappearance, a deceased aunt, several cops, a patient and very realistically portrayed dog, a woman being stalked by a vicious ex husband, a couple of missing wallets, and on and on.

Atkinson's characters and her style of writing are certainly not in the norm. Working in the third person, yet providing continuous glimpses into what a first person narrative would provide, she keeps the reader on her/his toes, and never disappoints.
