Ex-nurse Pauline Sokol is now working as an insurance investigator, and this case has her rubbing elbows with the rich. The case involves plastic surgery in a clinic in Newport RI. Her friend Goldie has offered to have a nose job so that Pauline can be his private nurse and gain access to the clinic to do her snooping.

Her mother wants her to return to nursing but Pauline resists, although she is not a very good investigator. Sexy Jagger is trying to teach her a few tricks, and usually has to come to her rescue. Goldie and his significant other Miles are Paulinešs roommates and add interest to the character mix.

Although Pauline does investigate in a bumbling sort of way, the mystery here is not a very strong part of the plot. Instead the authoršs background as a romance writer surfaces as she spends a lot of time on Paulinešs encounters with handsome men and her constant sexual fantasies, or on the many lunches and dinners she eats.
