Once more Inspector DeKok confronts an enigmatic series of events. Once more he suspects connections between them that his superior officer cannot see. Once more he struggles to drive a car, to cope with the computerized world of the contemporary police station house, and once more readers can delight in the latest of this Dutch series to appear in an English translation.

A young man is arrested on a small narcotics offense, and officers are startled to discover a money belt with 100,000 Euros concealed inside. No one, least of all deKok and his partner Vledder, believes the young man's vain attempts to explain away the money.

In seemingly unrelated incidents, several dead bodies are found on Amsterdam streets, all with their heads bashed in from behind and with their wounds bearing an odd configuration.

The reader will not be surprised to learn that the young man's impressive cache of money and the dead men are connected after all. The eventual solution is a calculated set of revenge murders - as the title makes clear: Murder in Installments.
