Series: Dekok

Baantjer's delightful Inspector DeKok returns - this time seeking the answer to the death by strangulation of two young men who lived in the same rooming house and whose bodies were found on the same evening. A few days later, their landlady is found dead under remarkably similar circumstances.

Several citizens of Amsterdam appear uninvited at the police station, protesting their innocence to DeKok and his partner Vledder. Not surprisingly, the two cops are intrigued by these unanticipated visits, and more than a little suspicious. By analyzing the connections between the dead trio and the persons who have inserted themselves into the investigation, DeKok solves the crime.

Baantjer is himself a retired Amsterdam cop, and his series rings true in delightful style. From a battered Volkswagen to the dark corners of the red light district, the reader is treated to an atmospheric few days in an Amsterdam few tourists experience.
