A life for a song is pretty much what happens in this DeKok novel. One of the victims dies for the music he carries in his head. Erik Bavel, an ex-drug addict is strangled in his room at a boarding house. Jean-Paul Stappert, an ex-drug addict, is killed on the street. It seems Erik and Jean-Paul are friends and live in the same boarding house. Soon the woman who runs the boarding house is also strangled.

DeKok and his partner Vledder lead you on a tour of Amsterdam in their search for clues and finally come up with a most unorthodox way of bringing the murderer’s identity to light.

This is one mystery that DeKok has a very difficult time solving but Murder By Melody is entertaining as are all the DeKok stories. If you haven’t tried them give them a chance. You are sure to enjoy them.
