Series: Anna Pigeon # 12

This is the latest entry in the popular Anna Pigeon series. Pigeon, a National Park Service Ranger has been posted to an undercover assignment in Yosemite National Park, where four young employees have mysteriously disappeared. The winter climate of the park is not encouraging to those searching for them - survival in the high altitude winter conditions requires cold weather equipment, and the staff has been able to determine that the four missing persons had no such gear with them.

To protect her identity as a federal law enforcement official, Anna works as a waitress in one of the elegant old hotels in the park, and seeks to ingratiate herself with the other staff members to learn what might have happened.

Before her assignment is completed, Anna has undertaken a perilous hike to a mountain lake, and encountered a truly hostile pair of opponents. She also comes face to face with the dark side of her own personality.

The unwitting roadblocks created by government beaurocracy, the hazards of mountains in the winter season, the greed, jealousy, and betrayals of the criminal element all combine for an excellent read.
