In Lochdubh, Scotland, Police Constable Hamish Macbeth has a cozy life with his dog and cat. In a church raffle, he has won the cleaning services of Mavis Gillespie, a prize he does not want. Mrs. Gillespie is a nasty tempered gossip. Hamish discovers her body outside another house, head bashed in by her bucket. And it would seem everyone has cause to want her gone, from an abused husband to clients she may have been blackmailing.

Hamishıs problem will be to find out just who may have done it while dodging TV crews, former girlfriends and ill-tempered bosses. Of course we know he can do it. The Macbeth series is a long one, amusing cozies with a Scottish village sensibility. A worthwhile way to spend an afternoon.
