Murder In The Bastille is the fourth outing with Cara Black’s Parisian detective Aimee Leduc. This one starts out at a restaurant with her having dinner with a client. Things lead to things and Aimee ends up in a alley getting ambushed. She is left blinded. As you can imagine this would put a crimp in anyone’s daily routine, but for some one as active as Aimee, it could be devastating. So Aimee is blind, trying to figure out what to do about an irate client and also figure out who attacked her and why. And, are they going to try to finish the job?
Luckily for Aimee she has a wonderful partner named Vincent. This is the first time we really see Vincent get involved in field work. And it’s great! We get a lot of insight into his character and what makes him tick.
So while I froze here in Milwaukee, I got to sport around Paris with Vincent while he questioned people, and with Aimee while she tries to come to grips with her lose of sight. As always Cara Black does a wonderful job of portraying this most romantic city. Every time I read another I feel like booking a flight. And since taking time off to fly to Paris is not in the cards right now, it’s nice to know I can spend some time with hip people in that great city just by picking up a book.
