TV reporter Michael Carolina works for Rhode Island's Channel Three News. Michael is assigned to cover the Newport sailing races. When Michael seeks an interview with the winner, Olympic contender Hunter Worthington III, he observes the victor being smacked in face by the man's father. Although the news crew tapes the incident, Worthington senior uses his clout to kill the story. However, his clout fails to stop the police from considering him the prime suspect in his son's death.

Worthington's attorney hires private detective Carla Tatraglia to find evidence to prove his client innocent of murder. Carla's lover Michael covers the same story for his station. Their relationship becomes strained when he learns that the Worthington team has retained Carla. Though they conduct their inquiries independent of each other, their investigations overlap. When Carla is in danger, Michael combines forces with her in an effort to attain the truth.

ROGUE'S REGATTA, the fourth Carolina mystery, has a fascinating story line as the spotlight shines on the lead characters' personal and professional lives. The well-done mystery is finely executed, but the protagonists make this a special novel. Thomas Gately Briody is a natural storyteller who keeps readers interested in his cast and story line.
