Class/Genre:   Mystery   Private Investigator
Series: Sean Sean # 1
Five Star, 2005

The title quite naturally creates a shiver of suspicion when the lawyers in the cast of characters are on stage, but having an inkling of who the bad guys might be doesn't interfere with pleasure in following the wry humor and twists and turns in the story as the wrong doers are unmasked.

Sean Sean (that's right - first and last names the same and no middle initial) is a private investigator in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. A prospective client shows up at his office without an appointment. After a brief interview she leaves without engaging Sean to help her, telling him she must think about her needs. When her body is discovered a day or two later, with Sean's business card in her purse, Sean is called to the morgue and drawn into an investigation of her death.

He soon finds himself visiting a local dominatrix for hire, spying on a local house of ill repute, being shot at while dining out, and interviewing quite a few people in classic PI fashion.

Brookins' entertaining romp moves right along. It's a quick fun read, and Sean Sean provides very pleasant homage to darker more serious PI's of suspense fiction of yore.
