Ellie Hatcher was jogging with her brother when they came upon three other joggers who had just discovered a body. As a new-fledged homicide detective, Ellie calls her partner and takes charge of the scene as other cops arrive. As the investigation develops she builds a case against a local businessman, then has doubts. Is this crime connected to others that he couldn’t have committed? Is she putting herself in danger to find out?

Burke writes a great thriller with an attractive and human protagonist, well developed characters, a New York City flavor and page-turning plotting. If you haven’t read Burke before this book will make you a fan.
