The FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list is dwindling rapidly, and the bodies are turning up in LA. LA County Sheriff's Department Homicide Detective Alex Brandon knows they have a problem on their hands, but he doubts the trail the vigilantes are leaving for him. Alex feels he and the rest of law enforcement are being manipulated, but he can't quite get a handle on why. And he knows the vigilantes are more dangerous than even the men they have removed from society.

Kit Logan is a deeply traumatized victim who was once a student at a private reform school for LA's rich, troubled teens. Spooky is a young runaway adopted by Kit Logan. Chase is Alex's nephew - the son of his brother and his ex-wife. John O'Brien is Alex's uncle, who manages to bind them all together.

In this stand-alone from her Irene Kelly series, Jan Burke has written a tight, well-plotted, complex and multi-layered police procedural/thriller that will keep you awake all night turning pages and reconsidering some of your preconceptions. In this stand-alone, Jan has proved once again just how talented she really is.
