In his new novel STREET BOYS Lorenzo Carcaterra once again tells the story of a band of boys. These are the boys of Naples who for four days in 1943 held off the 16th Panzer division of the Nazi Army. In this fictional account of the battle they are to a boy heroic. A group of children pounded by war who choose to stay and fight rather than run anymore. Added by an American and the town drunk they gather munitions such as are available, create scenarios from their favorite books with which to surprise their enemy and fight with a will of righteousness and grief that Carcaterra transfers to the page with ease. A dash of romance, small and large victories, compelling death scenes and yes a boy and his dog all work together to make this book a page turner for all lovers of the war novel and fans of Carcaterra.
