"Justice Delayed" introduces Sam Spade. No Samantha Spade, a 5'2" Seattle- based attorney just starting out on her own. Along with Sam, there is a wagon-load of characters with colorful names, some who dress unusually and some who have peculiar employment. Sam jets across the country and back working on her most important (of the few she has) case. Her wealthy client believes she is the heir to a fortune that will soon be reverting to the state due to no one claiming it. The fortune was left by a recluse without a will, and no identifying papers. Many have tried to lay claim to the fortune in the almost 40 years since her death. It was an almost impossible case. Sam decides to take it.
If you enjoy your crime fiction with emphasis on fiction and a heavy dose of zaniness, then this is your kind of book. Sam is a competent attorney, but we also see a lot of her personal life as it overlaps into her work. The focus tends to be more toward entertaining the reader with witty female interplay than anything action based. If this wasn't December I would say it was a 'beach read', but at this time of the year, it's a 'read while waiting in gift wrapping line'.
