Class/Genre:   Mystery
Series: Jack Reacher # 7
May 2003, Delacorte Press, 352 pages

This latest book by Lee Child is lots of fun. It is written in the first person, and as a result has a grittier feeling to it. Which works really well for this tale of Jack Reacher. This book opens like a smack in the head and doesn’t let up it’s assault till the end.

Reacher is working with another federal agency, and this time he’s not really playing by their rules. It just happens that they have similar agendas, and it’s to his benefit to give them a hand. The target of Reacher’s wrath is a man named Quinn, who is supposed to be dead. Because of Reacher’s spotting of Quinn, we are given another glimpse into his past, this time his work as the supervisor of a case to take Quinn down for espionage. The case ended with Quinn out of the picture, or so Reacher thought.

Which brings us to now. Reacher spots Quinn, and wants him. Quinn is working with a criminal named Beck. So Reacher ends up undercover to join the organization Beck runs, with or for Quinn.

This book was so fast paced it made me dizzy. It was kind of like driving 90 miles an hour at night with no lights, trusting that you will get where you are going, but not sure how. I really like this books tougher feel. It is pure Reacher at his best, and if this is a taste of what is to come from Lee Child, I want more.
