Michael Sinclair and Bruce Plantard are two British archaeology graduate students. On a field trip to the Mendip mines in Somerset they find the journal of the first Baldwin King of Jerusalem. Using the journal as a guide and financed by Brucešs uncle, they mount a secret expedition back to the mines in search of treasures hidden in the mines by early Christians. Along the way they find danger, deception, secret societies, and death.

It sounded like an interesting premise to me when I was first read about this book. But I was very wrong. The dialog is abysmal, the characters totally unbelievable, and the plot makes the tv show Relic Hunter look like Shakespeare. The author seemed to be trying to create a story that was a blend of science, theology, and mythology with a bit of action and adventure thrown in. If so, he failed completely. It was painful just to finish reading this book, and thinking about it again for this review is almost as much of an ordeal. Is it possible to give a book negative stars?
