Nine year old David Stark feels like a big boy as he his mother has given him permission to ride his bicycle to and from school. However, on his way home from school, a woman coaxes David into her car and speeds off with the lad. On her way home to meet her son, Rachel notices a red bike on the side of the road that looks identical to David's. When she enters her home, Rachel is stunned that David is not there.

A desperate Rachel calls the police, who send out Detective Gallagher to investigate the apparent abduction. Additionally, John Robinson of the Missing Child Foundation offers his services to the distraught mother. Her relationship with her husband was already shaky and this incident does nothing to bring the couple closer together. Rachel quickly concludes that that it is up to her to rescue her terrified child, who she seems to be psychically linked with through a series offrightening visions.

Katherine Clark has taken every mother's worst nightmare and turned it into a frightening tale of suspense that will leave readers exhausted and stunned. The story line has been the main plot of many recent novels, but few match the raw emotion of STEAL AWAY. The characters, with their deftly developed personal motivations and agendas, add to the fire of desperation that engulfs Rachel. This novel steals the heart of the reader with its gut-wrenching, non-stop pace that will wallop the most sedate reader with its pulsating energy.
