Class/Genre:   Mystery   Woman Main Character   Amateur Sleuth
Series: Stella Crown # 2

Stella Crown is a strong and surprising protagonist. Operating RoyalCrest Farm as a young single woman, her preferred mode of transportation is a Harley. Her friends include a large warm Mennonite clan, the Graingers , as well as members of a bikers group. When things go wrong, which has been happening a lot lately, all can be counted on to have her back.

Stella has recently lost her long time friend and hired hand Howie. To replace him she hires a young single mother who turns out to have more baggage than anticipated. Her eight year old daughter is no problem but former in-laws seem determined to cause trouble. And biker friend Lenny is having major problems he refuses to share with anyone, even after his best friends are threatened.

Clemensą characters are well done with complexities that make them true. She skillfully weaves past history with present. Her books are as much about how friends behave with each other as about mysteries.

Clemens first book was nominated for 2 awards. I found her second a very satisfying read and will be waiting for the next.
