Harlan Coben
Class/Genre: Mystery [Short Stories]
Little Brown, August 2006
This is a collection of short stories loosely based on the theme of love and marriage, each story featuring a couple bound by ties of love, some healthy and some not so healthy
Space prevents a detailed review of each story, but many of the most popular authors of suspence fiction are represented, and every story included is enjoyable reading.
Charles Todd writes from his usual perspective of the aftermath of the first Great War, with a lovely portrait of grief's special resolution. Laura Lippman's protagonist has not found one special man to be her mate, but she does have One True Love, and finds an ingenious way to keep that love free from a vicious threat. Lee Child brings us an ingenious opportunist, who takes the long view in planning his life. Two women from vastly differing life circumstances nevertheless share a unified goal in Bonnie Hearn Hill's entry.
Tim Maleeny deftly paints a picture of the sour environment created by too much togetherness, for too long a time. Jay Brandon's tale has a totally surprising "gotcha!" Editor Harlan Coben presents the story of a con to catch a con.
For fans of famous names in suspense fiction and for those who will enjoy an introduction to some lesser known names, I can recommend DEATH DO US PART.
