Laura Winslow has been running for a long time, avoiding her past. Now, she works for bounty hunters, hacking into databases searching for people and trying to find some trace of her long-lost daughter. When Abbott Pavatea, a Hopi from the nearby reservation, wants to hire her to find his granddaughter, Laura wants no part of the job. But when she finds that his granddaughter is just one of many that have gone missing lately, she can't turn him down.

Laura's search takes her through her own memories of reservation life and back into the world of the rodeo circuit. It also brings her much too close to the demons that chase her and Laura finds it harder than ever to deny the heritage she has tried so hard to leave behind. It also takes her into the path of a serial killer who knows just where to find her.

David Cole has created a character you want to hug and shake at the same time. He weaves the complexity of today's world with the mystery of the Hopi into a spellbinding story line that native culture readers should enjoy. Cole holds his own with Hillerman, and adds a new author to my list of "must-haves".
