Everyone has heard the old saying Curiosity killed the cat. Chasing the Dime is a book that proves looking in to things that arent your business can be hazardous to your health. Henry Pierce moves out of the house he shared with his ex-girlfriend/ ex- employee, Nicole James, and into a new apartment of his own. Even before he plugs the phone in, messages have been building up. They arent for him; instead he discovers that he has been given a phone number previously held by a beautiful woman from an internet escort site Lilly Quinlan. Henry cant understand how Lilly can still be continuing her business when her clients cant get in contact with her. Feeling parallels with his early life, Henry makes the decision to do some amateur investigating into what happened to Lilly. He finds himself drawn into the dark world of internet escorts and the men behind them. When he goes to the Police with what he knows, they immediately suspect him in her disappearance and he finds himself being investigated.

In Henrys professional life nothing could be better. He is President and owner of Amedeo Technologies and a brilliant chemist. Henry is getting ready to present some brand new scientific concepts to a potential investor in the field of molecular computing. This technology could jumpstart the research of several other scientists and it is important to be the first to patent it. Scientific advances and a lot of grant money are on the line. All of this is put into jeopardy as Henry knows the investor is backing the man as well as the concepts, and wont be impressed with Henry being investigated. As his two lives converge, Henry realises that all is not how it seems and he must find the truth before the police gain evidence to arrest him.

Award winning author Michael Connelly takes a break from his immensely popular Harry Bosch series with a thriller that will keep you on your toes and leave you amazed by the ending. The suspense is frightening and it is unlikely that the average reader will realise who the bad guy is. Chasing the Dime is one mans journey to learn how to trust and who to trust. Fans of Bosch will notice the Dollmaker reference as Henrys sister was one of the victims that Bosch fought to get justice for. Connelly also pays tribute to author George Pelecanos as one of the minor characters struggles to take her eyes from Pelecanos novel Hell to Pay. This book is very different from the Bosch series but still an enjoyable and well written read.
