My deep-felt thanks to my friend, Eveleen, for sending this book to me from Ireland. A fascinating, compelling, terrifying, chilling read.

Charlie "Bird" Parker is asked to investigate a suicide. The family of Grace Peltier does not believe that the young woman would have taken her own life, but they say they do not know what could have led to her death. However, as Parker finds out, they have been somewhat less than truthful with him. When he begins to uncover what led to Grace's death, Parker must make some heavy decisions about who and what he is, and what he might become if he continues with his latest case. Angel, Louis, and Rachel are part of those decisions.

John Connolly has done an incredible piece of work, not only with the writing of this book, but with the development of Charlie Parker, Angel, Louis, and Rachel. Don't read this book after dark. Make sure that there are friends close at hand. If you are subject to nightmares, make sure to keep the lights on. This book is so intense you won't want to put it down. It is so chilling that you will have goosebumps for days. This is also a intensely moving book. DO read it. I'm going to have to read it twice, there is so much to take in. We can only hope that there really are "Charlie Parkers", "Angels" and "Louis'" out there for us. This has become a series like no other I know. My hope is that the next installment includes more of Angel and Louis.
