John Connolly's third book, The Killing Kind, is a great read. It kept me up much later than I planned to be awake. Connolly's ability to keep the reader needing to know what happens next is uncanny.
In this book, we see Charlie Parker trying to escape his past a bit. At least at first. He ends up taking a case in which he needs to find the truth behind an apparent suicide. From the very beginning things are a bit tangled. Bird takes us with him on a journey through more of Maine's past. This time involving relgious groups of old, and some very unsavory people involved. We get a little more insight into events that took place in the first book as well.
As Bird progresses, Louis and Angel decide he needs some back up.Which is great because these guys are great side charactors. We also seemore of Bird's empathy of thosewho have died unjustly. It gives it a bit of a supernatural twist which doesn't take away from the story at all, and which I really enjoy. Rachel is back as well. And a strong woman as the romantic intrest is so nice.
If you enjoyed Every Dead Thing, and Dark Hollow, you owe it to yourself to read this book! The second, Dark Hollow, hasa just been released in the states, and the third is still only available over seas, but I couldn't wait. You might not want to either.
