Pete Marino and Lucy spend the day after Christmas at Kay Scarpetta's home. Kay makes her special pizza; Pete concocts mooshine eggnog; while Lucy brings her personality. All three individuals are connected with law enforcement and have had to deal with several ugly incidents over the past year. Still, they all celebrate the good in their lives.
Later, Kay visits her mother and sister in Florida where gourmet cooking, something Kay does when she is stressed is served by her. Lucy invites some friends over to share some cheer. Pete brings home a boy staying alone in an empty house. Kay returns home and makes her stew for everyone.
This book occurs after the classic POINT OF ORIGIN and has references to the major incidents in that novel. WINTER TABLE has the Patricia Cornwell magic with a glimpse into the personal lives of the three main characters in the author's awesome series. Recipes are intertwined into the story, bringing additional Yuletide charm to the book. No question this is a high price to pay for a novella, but fans of the writer will relish a chance to get inside the hearts of the prime trio.
