On a Friday evening in the Pocono Mountains near Blessed Creek, Pennsylvania Savich is driving down a dark road with a bag of supplies from Lew’s Friendly Staples when he has a blowout. He is headed back to the cabin where he, Sherlock and Sean are staying. He is shocked when he sees a woman run out of the trees. She is hysterical and he takes her home. This episode is very real to him but he finds out the home she takes him to has not been occupied for years.

Before he can spend much time with this mystery he and Sherlock are called back to Washington to investigate the murder of a Supreme Court Justice. Callie Markham, stepdaughter of Judge Califano, the murder victim, pushes her way into the investigation even though she is with the press and Savich allows it. He teams her up with Detective Raven of the local police thinking that she can help since she is personally acquainted with the various parties to be interviewed.

It is not long before there is yet another murder and soon it seems anyone associated with Justice Califano may be in danger.

This is the first book I’ve read of Catherine Coulter’s FBI series. I enjoyed the story and the characters and look forward to reading others.
