Class/Genre: Mystery Police Procedural
A missing person case turns into something far bigger for Detective Bill Reardon when, by a rather unusual coincidence, the missing person is identified - dead - in a very unexpected place. The plot of this mystery is agreeably convoluted, covering a wide span, both chronologically and geographically.
Bill, a police detective on sick leave, is clever, persistent and lucky. The other characters are interesting, although perhaps not particularly deeply-drawn or detailed. I rather liked the cheerfully mercenary but basically decent wife of the missing Wes Blake.
Readers who like a fast-moving and twisty detective novel should enjoy this one.
