A true masterpiece of the genre. This book should be a must read for all mystery fans who love PI books. CW Sughrue is hired by a wealthy woman to track down her ex-husband, and not for money, but because she’s worried about him. He’s a famous poet and author who likes to spend a little too much time in dive bars and drinking. Which is exactly how Sughrue likes to spend his time. This leads to a bit of an adventure in which Sughrue and the author Trehearne go off to find a missing girl, ten years after she has disappeared.

Full of one liners and tough guy scenes, this is classic Private Investigator fiction. The story flows wonderfully and build all the way to a surprising climax. Heavy boozing, a few one night stands, and a whole lot of driving (some with a beer drinking dog) make this a bit of a look at times gone by. A fun read, a great read.
