Four boys attend the catholic high school Fordham Prep, participate on the swimming team and become the best of friends. When the boys graduate and become adults they go their separate ways. Gabe Driscoll is a Chief with the police department. Frank fell in love with a beautiful girl named Rocky but the relationship didn’t end in marriage. Rocky’s family fought the relationship because of religious differences. After the break-up Frank went into the priesthood and spent years traveling. Andy Troy realizes his ambition to be a top notch journalist. Earl Finley went to law school and ended up in the District Attorney’s office.
Even though life takes the men down different roads they remain friends and try to keep in touch. Earl is the first one to leave the group. Earl was murdered because dared to publicly go against organized crime. It wasn’t too difficult for Gabe to find out who murdered Earl.
It wasn’t so easy to find out what happened when Frank jumped to his death from the top of a building and it was ruled a suicide. Gabe and Andy investigate and probe deeper and deeper into the past. Frank was a priest in a bad are of town and although his superior hinted at the fact that Frank had broken some of his vows this was a fact that neither man could accept and they kept up their search for the truth.
The Enemy of God is a little bit of mystery, a love story, the story of friend’s loyalties to each other and quite an interesting read.
