Ophelia Jensen has a family with many talents. Ophelia is a librarian as well as a psychic witch. Ophelia’s grandmother Abby is also a psychic witch. Titania, nick-named Tink is the girl that Ophelia is getting ready to adopt. Tink has been having nightmares about dead people. Not just one dead person but many dead people who are reaching out to her. Abby and Ophelia are both concerned about Tink’s nightmares and are trying to figure out just what is causing them. Tink is a medium so that factors into the puzzle.
Aunt Dot, Abby’s mother’s sister, has just arrived in Iowa. Aunt Dot’s talent is seeing fairies. Aunt Dot also has a talent for getting herself in trouble. Of course, the fairies help her out a lot.
Aunt Dot met a funeral director on her plane trip to Iowa. Ophelia, Abby and Tink barely get Aunt Dot settled in when they learn that the funeral director has been murdered. Aunt Dot immediately wants to start an investigation but Abby and Ophelia try to head her in another direction.
Then Tink’s dog comes barreling out of the woods carrying a skull. While Abby and Ophelia, as well as the local authorities, are trying to solve the mystery, Tink turns up missing.
The Witch Is Dead is a good story with a lot of humor and a mystery to be solved. I look forward to more Shirley Damsgaard novels.
