A murder victim is found hanging in St. Sebastian’s Church and Detective Raven McKenzie and Tony Rodriguez, Chicago detectives, are assigned to the murder case. Mickey Blair, the victim, is an employee of the Dunhill Corporation run by Fiona Dunhill. It is suspected that Mickey was involved in other things besides his employment at Dunhill.

Raven and Tony run into a wall when they interview Fiona Dunhill. The only way the two detectives will be allowed to check out the Dunhill files is if Christian Delacorte is allowed to assist with the investigation. Christian is one of Fiona’s top employees as well as Fiona’s foster son.

A deal is cut and the three are to work together but both sides feel the other side is holding back information. Raven is attracted to Christian although she tries to fight it. Before the investigation has barely begun Fiona leaves unexpectedly for parts unknown.

As the story progresses it seems that there is a link from the past that involves Christian, Fiona, Raven’s father and Raven and that link is one very dangerous person.

It is a race to see if Raven and Christian can unravel the past in time to save themselves.
