When I picked up this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought it might be a medical thriller (not my favorite genre), or maybe something kind of Supernatural in a high tech kind of way. Well, I’m still not sure exactly where this suspense book lands, but I can say that I really enjoyed it.
The premise of the book is kind of simple. A family rocked by tragedy, and the reaction to it. There are underlying tones of moral dilemmas, and just plain ethics. I don’t want to give to much away, but here’s the low down. A man’s son is injured in a pretty strange accident. A procedure, never done before, could save his life. And the Scott Jessup goes through the process of deciding, he discovers that there are other things at work. A doctor’s ambition, another Doctor’s strange experiments that have little regard for his patients. There is also another Doctor, one who actually only wants to help.
The book actually is a lot better than I’m making it sound! I was drawn in by Darton’s strong characters. They seemed very real to me and they made very real choices. And the story it self was also quite good. It gained momentum slowly, building like a great symphony does. Before I knew it, I was determined to finish the book, the late hour be damned. And I have to add, a special thanks to John Darton, for not throwing a typical cliché of an ending at me. I really loved the way the book closes.
I would suggest this book for anyone who likes good characters and a moving plot.
