"Money talks and bull$hit walks." That quote pretty accurately sums up the "justice" system in this country. Regardless of who is right or wrong, guilty or innocent, it is quite often the side that can afford the best attorneys that wins the case. For anyone who has ever felt let down or disgusted by the lack of actual "justice" that is meted out by our legal system, Anderson Parker is the type of lawyer we've been waiting for. He is tenacious and honest, with a very strong sense of right and wrong. He can't be bought. He represents plaintiffs only, doing his best to see that the underdogs are on equal footing with the corporate giants who have done them wrong. Interestingly, Anderson almost loses sight of his life's ambition while working for an unscrupulous and very successful defense attorney, Justin Cartwright, II, who protects his clients' money as if it were his own.
It is no surprise that Anderson and Cartwright find themselves pitted against one another when an horrific boating accident results in the deaths of three people, two of them children.
The author does a great job of painting Anderson as a three- dimensional character with values, morals, and goals that make him very likable, which is critical if he is to carry this new series. A little more time might have been devoted to better developing some of the minor characters, but other than that, this was a well- thought out story with a satisfying ending. I'll be on the lookout for the next installment!
