Series: Lincoln Rhyme # 5
2003, Simon and Schuster 399 pages
Jeffery Deaver’s skill as a writer grows with each book, along with his ability to entertain. In this Lincoln Rhymes and Amelia Sachs story they are hunting a killer who is adept in the use of magic. Malerik is an illusionist and uses his mastery of the art to confound and confuse our heroes through out the book. Full of twists and turns the plot is engaging and thrilling. And with the bits of lore about magic and it’s history it becomes something magic itself. There is a lot in the book about misdirection and the secrets of pulling of a perfect illusion. Well, after reading the book it occurs to me that it is not that unlike what a writer does. And the way it was done in this book was perfect. I was kept guessing and wondering right to the end. Encore please!!!!
