Matt Worth is a cop. He's not a very good cop, and he knows it. After one too many goofs on the job, he is assigned to a night shift at a dingy grocery store where he is supposed to deter shop lifters and petty thieves.
As in his previous books, in THE CLEANUP Doolittle explores the consequences of choices made in life. Matt's attempt to help a young woman who also works at the grocery leads him into hiding a body, telling part of the truth to his superiors, and staying one step ahead of a nasty collection of bad guys - all against the backdrop of a freak early fall snowstorm.
Supporting characters include Matt's brother who hit the jackpot when he married and has an honest life as a result; a lonely neighbor who knows more than he should about the entire sequence of events; and the beleaguered young woman from the grocery store who is struggling with her own set of choices.
Doolittle's books are always enjoyable reads. His good guys have strikes against them and his bad guys have redeeming qualities. Kind of like real life.
Highly recommended!
