Philip Damon is the leader of a "big-band" in 1963. Still devastated by the murder of his adored wife, he agrees to bring his group from NYC to a charity fund-raiser at San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel. In so doing, he is returning to a city that is haunted of memories of his wife and the time they spent there together, but is urged to attend and "lay his ghosts to rest".

Damon is stunned when one of the event's attendees bears an uncanny resemblance to his dead wife. Then, when the look-alike's partner is murdered on the dance floor, Damon becomes involved with another death and begins to learn things about his wife that he never knew.

BLUE MOON provides a fascinating look at the city I know and love, and a glimpse into places I've only ever dreamed about. Having never been inside many of the hotels and ballrooms, this first mystery by a remarkable duo was fascinating, and recalled a time I personally remember with great fondness. Combining high society and murder has its own mesmerizing qualities, but the sense of time and place evoked by this book makes it stand out. The insider's viewpoint is the icing on the cake. This should truly become a number one series for mystery fans.
