Northern California logging country is the setting for this thriller. Two lawyers are at the heart of the story. One, Dan Young works for the logging companies, the other, Marie Fletcher represents the environmentalist groups. The reader is introduced to them while they meet in a bar to exchange money. A lot of money. Neither Dan nor Marie can give much away due to client privilege, but because of things getting out of control, they end up working together. And what gets out of control starts with the robbing of the money as soon as they hit the street. It eventually leads them to a compound in the woods and discovering something that puts their lives in danger.
I have to admit that it took me a little bit to get into this book. I started and stopped a few times. But, I stuck with it and boy am I glad. This book picked up pace like a bowling ball rolling down a hill. The climax is wonderful and the story telling solid. A great summer read.
