Class/Genre: Mystery
Series: Cliff Janeway # 3
2004, Scribner 369 pages / $ 25.00
When I read Dunning’s first Janeway novel I was blown away. He made book collecting feel fun and exciting. The second book cemented my love of the character as well as my admiration of Dunning’s skills as a writer. And while I enjoy his other work, Janeway is my favorite, so waiting for the next installment was daunting.
Well, the wait is over and the book is in my home. And the book also happens to be wonderful. Janeway has a bit of what he calls “Indian money”, an expression used for money that is unexpected. He uses the money to buy a very expensive book for himself at an auction. The book is by adventurer Richard Burton. Soon after the purchase is made he gets a visit form an old lady claiming the book is from a collection stolen by her father. Janeway being who he is, promises to get to the bottom of this claim. And while we follow Janeway ob his own adventure we learn about Richard Burton.
Like Dunning’s other work, this book got me thinking about other books and wanting to do some book hunting of my own.
This is a great read and truly enjoyable book. With classic mystery elements it is a true joy to read.
