Series: Grandmother Stories # 3
University of New Mexico Press; 2003; 32pp
This retelling of the Cherokee legend of Ji-Stu [Rabbit] for children by author Deborah Duvall is also beautifully illustrated by Murv Jacob with black and white drawings with the appearance of woodcuts.
A "Grandmother Story" for children, and a must for parents with children who want to know "why". it gives life to the Cherokee visions of Rabbit [the trickster], Otter, and Bear [Yona], and as all good legends, includes a lesson for the young. It is constructed as a "read it aloud", bedtime story rather than a book for a child to try to read by themselves. Do you and your children a favor and include this one as a bedtime book!
