Grace Flint, an undercover cop, is severely injured when a police operation goes wrong. When she recovers, she insists on returning to work and decides that whatever happens, she will track down the man responsible for the horrifying attack on her - even if it means going back into her own worst nightmare.

In this story, Eddy deftly mixes spying and intrigue with police procedure on both sides of the Atlantic. Flint moves from the UK to the US and around the world in search of justice, with Eddy throwing in surprise after surprise. Publicity for this book puts Flint on a level with Clarice Starling and it is an interesting comparison, although Flint never quite builds up the same rapport that the readers feel with Starling.

Eddy also employs a mixture of the present and past tenses. One of my pet hates is certainly the use of the present tense, but here, it does not grate as much, since it is not continuously used. The plot begins quite slowly, but once it gets going, it becomes fast and exciting with an enjoyable and satisfactory conclusion.

The author clearly has talent and I look forward to reading his next novel. 'Flint' is very good and his next can only be better.
