If you have teen-aged kids who spend a lot of time on the Internet and it's never bothered you before, "Murder on the Internet," by Ron Ellis is guaranteed to scare the beejeesus out of you! The book's protagonist, Detective Chief Inspector Glass, is a hard-boiled policeman in the UK. He has a strong sense of justice and fair play, and is an older gentleman who acts his age and appreciates members of the opposite sex who are his own age as well. He is decidedly old fashioned and endearing, but is also one heckuva tough, no-nonsense cop.
The detective chief inspector lives with his daughter and son-in-law (who is also a member of law enforcement). The son-in-law and the DCI are both working cases that soon become much more complicated than they seemed at first glance. The plot deals heavily and sensitively with such things as the rape, torture and murder of young women, pornography and the Internet, and kids on the Web. And what a tangled web it all becomes.
This book, while a very interesting, tense, and complicated thriller, is not for the faint of heart. Ron Ellis holds no punches and doesn't gloss over the ugliness of human nature that cops see on a daily basis. If you prefer your cops hard-boiled, you'll want to give Detective Chief Inspector Glass a try.
