Seattle Firefighter Lt. Paul Wollf lost his father 25 years ago to a pyromaniac. Because of that loss, his family fell apart, his brother later went to jail, and he is still fighting the raging anger it left him with. As a firefighter himself now, he finds himself back in the neighborhood where his father died. A pyromaniac has hit the city again, spawning copycats, and running the crews off their feet trying to keep up.

When Wollf finds evidence at one of the fires, it triggers a memory and he heads for the files he kept of his father's death and tries to talk to firefighers who were in the department 25 years ago. Is this the same pyromaniac from 25 years ago? Is Wollf himself a target? With Wollf having sworn to avenge his father's untimely death, who is the cat here and who is the mouse?

Earl Emerson, a veteran firefighter in Seattle, takes you behind the lines and puts you in the midst of the action from a firefighter's point of view. True heroes are men and women like these firefighters who put their lives on the line on a daily basis to protect their community. My *only* problem with the changing points of view is that i get SO caught up in the story I tend to forget to notice that the point of view has changed!
