I picked up a copy of this book after hearing Mr. Engel speak at Magna Cum Murder. He gave an hour presentation on the life of Edgar Allen Poe and actually made it entertaining. As a result, I was interested enough to buy the book. The book is a series of essays on famous authors, like Poe, Dickens, Austen, Twain, Hemingway and more. And rather than the typical blurb type bios you find on their books, this gives all sorts of interesting anecdotes and insights to these people. I was totally engrossed by this book. And even the authors I don’t care for were fun to read about. A super book, and not a bad idea for a holiday gift.
